Early Intervention: Why do children need to see the orthodontist as early as 6-7 years old?
Coming in for an orthodontic consultation at age 6-7 years old does not necessarily mean treatment will be necessary right away. An early consultation is important to detect dental issues that may need correction through orthodontic treatment. In this video, Dr. Adams explains how orthodontists can do an analysis as early as age 6 to look at things like crowding, jaw growth and spacing. Your orthodontist can then develop a plan to monitor your child’s teeth and jaws over time and only intervene when necessary. If needed, early orthodontic treatment may prevent more complex and extensive treatments later on.
